The risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular illness pose the greatest threats to those beginning or resuming exercise. This risk increases with age, accordingly the American Heart Association and the American College of Sports Medicine recommend that screening be more stringent as age increases.
We take more care, so that you can enjoy your journey to fitness in the safest and healthiest way.
Your fitness screening will be broken down into 3 appointments.
Appointment 1 - Health/ Risk Stratification – assessed by Sports Nurse
- Questionnaire
- BMI
- Weight
- BP
- Fasting blood tests
- Serum Lipid Profile
- Glucose
Appointment 2 will be with one of our Sports Medicine Physicians.
- A full physical examination is performed
- The results of examination 1 will be reviewed and any adverse findings (raised blood pressure or cholesterol) will be forwarded to your GP.
- Based on your findings from examination and appointment 1 the most appropriate exercise testing for your functional status will be arranged on the same day.
Fitness testing;
- ECG
- PFTs
- Exercise stress testing
In the event of any abnormal tests results, we have consultant respiratory physicians and cardiologists on staff who will interpret results and arrange for appropriate testing and follow-up, all available on-site.
- Echocardiograph
- CT angiography
- Cardiac MRI
- Asthma provocation testing
- High resolution CT (HRCT)
Appointment 3 will be with one of our Sports Medicine Physicians.
- A comprehensive report on your health, fitness and ability is provided.
- A personalised, appropriate fitness program is prescribed.
- Recommendations are made in relation to lifestyle, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology/motivation.
- Our SSC lifestyle enhancement plan provides a monthly multi-disiplinary review (physiotherapy, nutrition, motivation) over a 6-month period, and is available for those patients who feel some guidance would be of assistance.
