2nd Annual GP Study Day

On Saturday December 5th the Sports Surgery Clinic welcomed more than 80 GPs to the clinic for a day of learning and exchange.

Participants were welcomed in from the cold weather by hot drinks and mince pies as we began the day with introductions from Mr. Ray Moran, Medical Director of SSC. The first session was a relaxing one as we enjoyed talks from Mr. Johnny McKenna, foot and ankle specialist (pictured barefoot below), and Mr. Keith Synnott, specialist in lower limb surgery.

Mr. Johnny McKennaMr. Keith Synnott There was a special treat when GAA legend Kieran Donaghy, of the Kerry Football team, joined us to discuss the players perspective on serious injury. His insight into the psychological effects of injury and recovery time reminded us all that the sports person has a totally different set of priorities as a patient.

The morning continued with lively round table discussions led by SSCs expert Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons. GPs took this opportunity to delve deeper into their experience and share case histories as ideas were tabled and methods of diagnosis and treatment weighed up. As the afternoon came upon us our invited guests were introduced to patients in two workshop sessions focusing on knee and neck injuries.
