Dr Michael Ryan is a Consultant Sports and Exercise Physician based at our Sports Medicine Department in UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic.
He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports Medicine in Ireland and the Royal Australian College of General Practice. He trained in Melbourne, Australia, before relocating to Ireland in 2022, where he completed further training in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
While in Australia, Dr. Ryan was Head Doctor for Melbourne Football Club AFLW. He worked with both Melbourne Rebels rugby union and Melbourne Storm NRL on matchdays and as concussion analyst. Dr. Ryan was also Doctor on the athletics track at the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in 2018.
Since returning to Ireland, he has worked with the Louth GAA Men’s Senior Football and the Kildare Senior Hurling teams. He has travelled with the Irish boxing team and works with Tennis Ireland, covering the Irish Open and Davis Cup.
Dr Ryan is passionate about enabling his patients to return to physical activity and sport and is a huge advocate for the benefits of exercise on both physical and mental health. He specialises in the management of acute and overuse injuries in both adults and children, from recreational to elite athletes.
