One year ago, I underwent a full knee replacement at the SSC under the care of Mr. Ray Moran and his incredible team. As I mark my one year anniversary, I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care I received from start to finish.

From my very first consultation, I felt I was in safe hands. Mr. Moran’s skill, professionalism, kindness and reassurance gave me complete confidence throughout the entire journey. The nursing staff, theatre team and everyone involved in my care were outstanding, making what could have been a daunting experience as comfortable and positive as possible.

A special mention to the physiotherapy team also. They gave me excellent advice, encouragement and a rehabilitation programme that really worked. I have to admit, I’m not always known for doing exactly what I’m told… but for once in my life, I decided to follow the physiotherapists’ instructions to the letter! It turns out they knew what they were talking about, and I’m so glad I listened.

The results have been nothing short of life-changing. Looking back over the past 12 months, I’m amazed at what I’ve been able to achieve:

  • 9 months post-op: Climbed Carrauntoohil. Up and down the Devil’s Ladder
  • 10 months post-op: Climbed Skellig Michael
  • 11 months post-op: Completed a 12 km hike through the Gap of Dunloe
  • 12 months post-op: Completed the Kilkee Half Marathon in pouring rain
  • 12 months post-op: Booked my place to trek to Everest Base Camp in early 2028

In fact, I had already climbed Kilimanjaro and Everest was on my bucket list, but I never ever thought I would get to do it.

A year ago, many of these goals would have seemed impossible. Today, they are memories I will treasure forever, and I have an exciting adventure still to come.

Thank you, Mr. Moran, and thank you to every member of the team who played a part in my recovery. You haven’t just replaced my knee—you’ve given me back my freedom, my confidence and my love of adventure. I will be forever grateful for the care, expertise and encouragement I received.

If anyone is considering knee replacement surgery, I hope my story gives them confidence that, with an outstanding surgical team, expert rehabilitation and a commitment to following the recovery plan, life after surgery can be far better than you ever imagined.
